Effective 9/1/2024, six new WCIRB food & beverage classifications replace the 9079 (1) Restaurants code.  

 

The Workers' Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau of California (WCIRB) recently announced, effective 9/1/24, the 9079 (1) Restaurants code will be replaced by six new classifications. These changes aim to better serve the distinct differences among the industry's segments.  

 

What are the 6 New WCIRB Restaurant Classifications?

  • 9058: Hotels/Motels Food/Bev Employees
  • 9080: Restaurants - Full Service
  • 9080 (A): Restaurants - Full Service - Avg. Dinner Entrée $25 or Higher*
  • 9081 (1): Restaurants - NOC
  • 9082: Caterers
  • 9083: Restaurants - Fast Food/Fast Casual
  • 9084: Bars or Taverns

*9080 (A) is a proprietary code with a lower rate exclusive to Preferred.

 

The following classifications will also be included in the Food and Beverage Service Industry Group effective September 1, 2024:

  • 8078 (1): Sandwich Shops
  • 8078 (2): Beverage Preparation Shops
  • 8078 (3): Ice Cream or Frozen Yogurt Shops
  • 9081 (2): Concessionaires
